EVE Update... again.
Wow! It's been over two years since I posted anything about what's been happening in EVE. I'll just hit the highlights.
The Alliance has many more corps, so that's going well.
The Corp itself is quiet, but picking up again. Our resident RL (real life) military guy with 4 accounts has come back, and is rocking the Mining Director position. He's organized weekly alliance mining ops, and tonight's is going really well. In the image below, all the purple squares represent alliance members or their mining drones. You can tell by the fleet window how many characters are there, though several players run more than one character.
I'm in an Orca, giving fleet boosts so that everyone who's mining gets better yield, uses less capacitor, and gets better range. My boost skills are all "perfect", meaning that they can't be trained any higher.
Project 2 has folded up, and paid some nice dividends. Overall, it paid 9.3 billion ISK in salaries and dividends, then paid everyone's initial investments back.
Project 3, a more modest project involving selling Retriever BPCs (blueprint copies to make medium-sized mining barges), started and ended, paying out about 750 million ISK in salaries and dividends, plus the initial investment. P3 was very little work, so I consider that a good return on a small investment.
Project 4 has started up and is still running. This project builds and sells carriers and dreadnaughts, which are large warships. They are not the largest warships, but they sell for around 1.3 billion and 2.5 billion ISK each, respectively. So far it has paid out 5 billion ISK in salaries and dividends, and is still running. It's been slow as the main pilot responsible for it has had fluctuating time available for it; but one of the benefits of being in a casual corp like ours is that this is ok.
Project 5 has also started up, and is building and selling Orcas, which are mining command ships which sell for around 600 million ISK. So far it has paid about 3 billion ISK in salaries and dividends, and is still operating.
A few months ago, a bad guy joined one of the alliance's member corps that made a security mistake. This person was involved in killing some friendlies in Providence. Providence is a region run by CVA, a group of Amarr role-players. They are taking Providence back for the Amarr empire, and allow anyone to go there and do almost whatever they want except kill people who are in not in bad standing with them.
That last bit is an important distinction in EVE. In some areas, it's NBSI, "not blue, shoot it". This means that if you not in good standing with the owning alliance, they will shoot you. Since the default standing is neutral, just wandering in unannounced is a bad idea. CVA's space is run as NRDS, or "not red, don't shoot". This means that until you have done something wrong, or join a corp or alliance that has done something wrong, they will not only leave you alone, but they will come to your aid if attacked.
We've had "known neutral" standing there, meaning they set us to zero standing instead of leaving the default zero standing. The difference is that with the default, there's no icon by our names to members of their alliances. If we're set to zero, then we show up with gray equals signs, meaning we're neutral, but they know about us.
Then the aforementioned bad guy joined one of our corps, got some people killed in Providence, and we got set on the Kill On Sight list for CVA. Luckily, I had to ask for the status of one of their systems before moving in to get some mining ships. Someone in the intel channel said I was red, and that was the first I heard about it. To make a long story short, that got sorted out eventually, and we're back in not-bad standing.
Well, that's it for now. hopefully there will be another update before 2015!
